I entered healthcare as a medic in the United States Army. After receiving a medical discharge, I became an associate degree Registered Nurse.
I have worked in various NICUs, serving in multiple capacities. After ten years as a bedside nurse, I enrolled in the University of Virginia. While pursuing a BSN I learned I wanted to serve neonates and their families in a different capacity. I applied and was accepted to the BSN to DNP program at the University of Virginia.
I learned all families have multiple dynamics. My goal is to meet my families where they are, and provide the best possible care. Which led to my DNP scholarly project, Evaluating Racial Disparities in a NICU Parental Support Bundle.
The findings of my DNP scholarly project illuminated the need for ALL families on a NICU journey as well as various disparities for neonates and families of color.
Through Neonatal Consults I desire to provide family support, education, and meaningful interactions for ALL families on a NICU journey.
